Your home is a canvas waiting to be adorned with elements that not only protect it but also infuse personality and style. One often-overlooked area that can transform the overall look of your home is the gable eaves. While gable eaves primarily serve a functional purpose, installing cedar shake shingles can not only enhance their beauty but also provide a touch of character and style to your home. In this blog post, we’ll explore how this simple yet impactful upgrade can elevate your home’s elegance.

The Timeless Charm of Cedar Shake Shingles

Cedar shake shingles have been a favorite choice for roofing and siding for centuries, and for good reason. They exude a timeless charm and natural warmth that can complement various architectural styles, from traditional to modern. When applied to gable eaves, these shingles create an eye-catching focal point that draws attention and admiration.

Aesthetic Appeal
One of the primary reasons homeowners choose cedar shake shingles for their gable eaves is their aesthetic appeal. These shingles provide a rustic, cozy look that instantly adds character to your home. The natural variations in color and texture of cedar wood create a unique and inviting facade that stands out in any neighborhood.

Versatility in Design
Cedar shake shingles come in various sizes and shapes, allowing you to customize your gable eaves to suit your personal style and the architectural character of your home. You can opt for thinner shingles for a sleek and modern look or thicker ones for a more rustic appearance. Additionally, you can choose between stained or painted finishes to match your preferred color scheme.

Durability and Longevity
Aside from their visual appeal, cedar shake shingles offer excellent durability. Cedar wood contains natural oils that make it resistant to decay and insect infestations. With proper maintenance and occasional resealing, cedar shake shingles can last for decades, making them a worthwhile investment for your home.

Energy Efficiency
Cedar is an excellent insulator, meaning installing cedar shake shingles in your gable eaves can improve your home’s energy efficiency. They help regulate the temperature by keeping your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, reducing your reliance on heating and cooling systems.

Eco-Friendly Choice
Cedar is a sustainable and eco-friendly building material. The harvesting of cedar wood is carefully managed to ensure the continued growth of cedar forests, making it a responsible choice for environmentally conscious homeowners.

Incorporating cedar shake shingles into your gable eaves is a design choice that beautifies your home and adds personality and style. The timeless charm, versatility, durability, and eco-friendliness of cedar wood make it an excellent option for homeowners looking to enhance their homes’ visual appeal and character.

Whether you’re renovating or building a new home (Like this one), consider the transformative power of cedar shake shingles in your gable eaves. With their natural beauty and long-lasting benefits, they can elevate your home’s elegance and leave a lasting impression on visitors and passersby alike. So, why wait? Embrace the charm of cedar shake shingles and embark on a journey to make your home truly stand out.

Transforming a Living Space: Saying Goodbye to the Old Window and Welcoming a Modern Façade

Transforming a Living Space: Saying Goodbye to the Old Window and Welcoming a Modern Façade

Living on Bainbridge Island comes with the allure of breathtaking views, and homeowners often invest in properties that offer these mesmerizing sights. However, sometimes these views come at a cost, and not every window provides a picturesque scene. Such was the case for one homeowner with a window that seemingly led to nowhere, offering nothing more than an uninspiring view of the side of the neighbor’s home and a garden shed. For 16 long years, the curtains remained closed, blocking the dull vista and rendering the window essentially useless.

Faced with this predicament, the homeowner decided to seize this opportunity to turn a lackluster window into an exceptional focal point, one that would transform the living space into a modern and inviting haven. Rather than investing a significant sum of money, approximately $600 or more, to replace the window, they envisioned an alternative plan that would not only revamp the space but also make it more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The idea was born to replace the window with a stunning floor-to-ceiling metallic tile facade. This metallic tile, with its contemporary charm, would add a touch of sophistication to the room, providing an eye-catching backdrop for the new centerpiece—a sleek, state-of-the-art electric fireplace. The decision to opt for this fireplace was a practical one, considering its versatility and ability to provide both ambiance and warmth. Equipped with a convenient remote control, the electric fireplace allowed the homeowner to adjust the settings and create various lighting effects, including a festive red and green theme during the holidays.

Moreover, the new facade and electric fireplace created an ideal space to accommodate a flat-screen TV. Gone were the days when the awkwardly placed window obstructed the possibilities for an entertainment setup. With the large expanse provided by the floor-to-ceiling facade, the homeowner could now install a flat-screen TV at the perfect eye level, optimizing the viewing experience and making the room the ultimate entertainment hub.

The decision-making process also involved considerations about design aesthetics. Embracing a minimalist approach, the homeowner chose not to include a traditional mantle. This design choice enhanced the modern appeal of the room, emphasizing clean lines and uncluttered surfaces. The absence of a mantle not only reinforced the minimalist look but also drew attention to the striking metallic tile facade and the sleek electric fireplace.

By removing the old, tired window and replacing it with this contemporary marvel, the living space underwent a stunning transformation. No longer did the homeowners have to endure the uninspiring view of the neighbor’s house; instead, they now had a visually captivating feature that added value to their home and improved their daily living experience.

In addition to the aesthetic upgrades, the decision to eliminate the old window and introduce a modern facade brought practical benefits as well. The new metallic tile surface was easy to maintain, requiring only occasional cleaning to keep its lustrous appearance. Furthermore, the electric fireplace offered energy-efficient heating options, providing warmth to an area of up to 600 square feet, making it a cozy retreat during the colder months.

With the transformation now complete, the living space became a hub for relaxation, entertainment, and social gatherings. The room’s ambiance could be tailored to suit any occasion, from quiet evenings with a gentle flickering flame to lively gatherings with the warm glow of the holidays. The once-neglected window was no longer an eyesore; instead, it became a conversation starter—a testament to the homeowner’s creativity and resourcefulness.

This transformation serves as a reminder that home improvement doesn’t always require a hefty budget or extensive renovations. Sometimes, it takes a creative vision and a willingness to reimagine a space to breathe new life into a room. The decision to remove the old window and replace it with a floor-to-ceiling modern facade not only enhanced the living space’s aesthetics but also increased its functionality and comfort.

The journey of saying goodbye to the old, tired window and welcoming a modern facade was one of ingenuity and design prowess. The homeowner’s decision to forego a costly window replacement and instead opt for a striking metallic tile facade with an electric fireplace and space for a flat-screen TV showcases the power of creativity in home improvement. This inspiring project serves as a testament to the transformative potential of even the simplest design choices, turning a mundane window into an extraordinary centerpiece and making the living space an oasis of comfort and style.
